What is Tuck's Team

A Brief History

Tuck's Team is an American Cancer Society Relay for Life Team operating out of the Greater New Bedford Area of Southeastern Massachusetts.  We have been in operation since 2001.  The team was formed to help raise money for cancer services and research in the memory of Dave Tucker, a close friend to many of the original members of Tuck's Team.  Dave battled cancer for many years, eventually succumbing to the disease. 

Over the years Tuck's Team has evolved in many ways.  What started as a bunch of 18 and 19 year olds looking to raise some money for a cause in memory of Dave, has turned into a multi-event major fund raiser for the American Cancer Society in our area.  Over the years Tuck's Team has grown, and as of 2006 we have several members who have their own reasons for participating, but all with the goal of raising more money for the American Cancer Society that Tuck's Team ever has before.

For the past three years, Tuck's Team primary form of raising cash has been through the Annual ACS Benefit Show.  These shows have featured many a local talent, and some of the regions most talented bands.  Some of the talent that has preformed in years past have been Gandharva, J. Kelley & Co., Lemonstone, Roots Down Below, Shipyard Wreck, and The Thrift Syndicate.  For the past three years, the summer show has been held at The Washington Club in New Bedford Massachusetts.  In 2004 we also had a winter show at Bridge Street Station, that turned out to be a major success.

Over the past 5 years, Tuck's Team has raised nearly $15,000 in funds, with our best year being 2004, with over $5,000 raised thanks to the success of both Benefit Shows, and generous donations from individuals, and local businesses.  Our goal for 2006 is to surpass $5,000 and have our most successful year ever.
